Southern Anglers Challenge Results, Lake Wylie, 18 Nov. 2006Southern Anglers Challenge Lake Wylie division kicked off the ?07 season Saturday, November 18, 2006. The day brought clear skies and mild temperatures for the thirteen teams who showed up to test their talents against some of the best anglers the area has to offer. For a lake that has been producing lower than average weights lately the anglers really brought in nice sacks of fish. The winning team of Tom Russell and Doug Gilmer shocked the crowd with 16.6 lbs. of beautiful largemouth bass anchored by a nice 4.62 lb. kicker. These guys really shine when the temperature drops and boy did they prove it, Saturday. Congratulations Tom and Doug spend that $650 first place check you received wisely. No stranger to the money was the second place and defending point?s champions Rusty White and Cliff Kirby. These guys are two of the best anglers in the area and a great example of overcoming adversity on the water. With a blown motor these guys managed to catch a sack of 15.10 lbs of gorgeous greenbacks. For their efforts they took home $390 and Big Fish honors with a 5.66 lb toad worth $130. Finishing just short of the money was the team of Ron Farrow and Mike Brehm who brought in a respectable sack of fish weighing 12.29 lb. Anglers were tight lipped on what lures fooled the Lake Wylie largemouth, but I would bet that a jig and a crank bait played an essential role in catching those nice sacks of fish. The next tournament for the Southern Anglers Challenge Lake Wylie division is scheduled to take place December 16, 2006. Sure to be another show down against Lake Wylie?s finest and look for nice sacks of fish to be brought in as Wylie usually heats up as the temperature drops.
