Southern Anglers Challenge, Lake Wylie 4/21/07 resultsSouthern Anglers Challenge, Lake Wylie 4/21/07 - A beautiful day for fishing, but a not so beautiful day for catching seemed to be the motto of the ten teams of anglers Saturday in the Southern Anglers Challenge tournament. Anglers reported extreme pressure on the fish, tons of pleasure boaters, and a difficult bite. The Wylie largemouth seems to be in that spring time funk, with some fish on the bed, and some out deep. Finding the quality bite seemed to be the problem for most teams. All teams competing weighed in a limit, but only one team caught the quality fish needed to put together a good sack. Michael Sprouse and Stephen Hicks weighed in a 16+ sack of fish anchored by the big fish of the tournament weighing 5.11 lbs. Team Sprouse and Hicks took home a total of $600 for their impressive catch of fish. Earning $300 for their second place finish was the current point?s leaders with 11.54 lbs, Wayne Harris and Ben Williams. Third place and just out of the money was local pro Rusty White who weighed in at 10.54lbs. Most teams reported a decent dock bite with small baits like shaky heads and floating worms. The winning weight reportedly came on a jig fished about 2 -6 feet deep. One thing is for sure the fish are biting all over the lake, but finding the ?Bigs? seems to be the problem.
