Fifteen fierce competitors showed up to fish the first Southern Anglers Challenge tournament of the year for the Lake Wylie division. Low water conditions combined with thick fog and below freezing mornings proved to be tough for some of the competitors. As usual though the field of fifteen was filled with some of the best anglers in the area and they were able to bring in some very respectable sacks of fish. Taking home the first place check of $750 was one of the most consistent anglers in the area Chris Marshall and his partner Ronnie Wilson. Chris and Ronnie said they found most of their fish shallow on a jig. Great job Chris and Ronnie taking home first place in their first Southern Anglers Challenge tournament. Taking home second place was the team of Rusty White and Deirdre Davidson with a beautiful sack of Lake Wylie green backs weighing 13.97 lbs. For their efforts the second place team received a check for $450. Rusty gave credit for this nice sack of fish to his trademark Tom Tom’s Tournament Tackle jig in the EZ Money color. The local guide and pro reported their catch coming from extremely shallow water with most of the fish coming from around boat docks. Finishing in third place was the team of Mike and Jeff Sprouse these brothers worked hard all day to bring in a nice sack of fishing weighing 12.97lbs. Reports from other anglers at the weigh in reported fishing coming from water as deep as 25 foot on a carolina rig and crank bait. Regardless of the low water the fish seem to be biting fairly well on drought ridden Lake Wylie. Due to low water the next tournament for the division will blast out of Nivens Creek boat landing on December 15, 2007.
